Sport speaks a universal language, which breaks down barriers and cuts through income and ethnic divides. It is this belief in the power of sport to positively change young lives, which has motivated Sporting Chance since it was established in 1990. Over the years Sporting Chance has grown to become a leading sports coaching and development organisation in South Africa with a powerful and recognizable brand.

Sporting Chance’s prime objective is to provide opportunities for sporting achievement for as many children as possible – irrespective of race, gender or social class – by offering professional coaching within all community sectors. Based on the knowledge that the foundation for sporting ability is laid during the formative years, Sporting Chance advocates and implements various programmes for coaching school-age children.

Sporting Chance’s philosophy is to get children off the streets, or away from their computer games and TV’s and instill in them, a love of sport. With disciplined, structured coaching that strikes a balance between sports, academics, and “play”, Sporting Chance has developed some of South Africa’s most promising sportspeople.

Our Mission is to provide the children of South Africa with a Sporting Chance.

Our impact has been significant, with over 270,000 children across South Africa benefitting from our programmes since 1990. Currently, 34,000 children are involved in our programmes annually, while creating contractual employment for over 1,000 coaches. Our programmes include Disney Healthy Happy Play, Calypso Beach Cricket, Street Netball, Street Soccer, Street Cricket, Table Cricket and regular coaching programmes in under resourced communities.

Our vision is to provide opportunities for sporting achievement and personal development for as many children as possible as they are empowered to become competent, confident and responsible citizens of South African society.

This charity has achieved a 8 Star rating on the Helpmore Trust Index, meeting 8 out of 10 trust criteria, including NPO registration, financial transparency, and independent governance.
