Protect The West Coast

Protect the West Coast (PTWC) is a not-for-profit organisation (NPO) established in 2020 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to put a stop to the illegal and destructive mining activities which are running rampant on South Africa’s West Coast.

Protect The West Coast is a Not-For-Profit environmental organisation formed to fight unregulated and destructive mining on the South African Cape West Coast. Our vision is a thriving and abundant West Coast that benefits present and future generations. Lawful and unlawful mining activity covers an astounding portion of the area. Our goal is a future that replaces degraded, lifeless, and desolate mine dumps with cross-functional economic activity in unison with nature and her people. From the Orange River to Cape Columbine, hundreds of kilometres of the South Africa’s West Coast coastline are being mined, or have been earmarked for mining. These industrial-scale extractions have lasting consequences for local communities, fisheries and the natural environment, for generations to come.

This charity has achieved a 10 Star rating on the Helpmore Trust Index, meeting 10 out of 10 trust criteria, including NPO registration, financial transparency, and independent governance.
