FoodForward SA was established in 2009 to address widespread food and nutrition insecurity in South Africa.

We are the largest food redistribution organisation in Africa, recovering quality, within date, surplus food from the consumer goods supply chain and distributing it to a network of vetted Beneficiary Organisations serving local communities.

FoodForward SA is a certified member of the Global Foodbanking Network.

Our Mission is To reduce hunger in South Africa by safely and cost-effectively securing quality food, and making it available to those who need it.

In South Africa, more than one third of all food produced – approximately 10 million tonnes – of mostly edible food is lost or wasted each year, while millions of people experience food insecurity.

FoodForward SA addresses this crisis by recovering and redistributing quality surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers to vulnerable communities through a national network of thousands of vetted Beneficiary Organisations.

More than 90% of the food we recover is nutritious, helping close to one million people access healthy meals every day.

This charity has achieved a 9 Star rating on the Helpmore Trust Index, meeting 9 out of 10 trust criteria, including NPO registration, financial transparency, and independent governance.
